Opportunity Snapshot
In this position you will join the clear leader in our industry at a time when we are making significant capital investments. You'll contribute to a wide variety of projects as the company grows in multiple directions, from facility upgrades to ground up construction. You will be the sole Civil Engineer on our team of 10 to 15 Engineers, giving you the opportunity to broaden your skill set. JM Eagle offers stability in an unpredictable economy: in addition to being the world's largest manufacturer of PVC pipe, we have a diverse, recession-resilient product portfolio.
You will provide design and support to engineering projects for expansion and improvements, including building layout, utilities foundation, and plant utility equipment layout. This role also involves project management and coordination activities. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and at least two years of experience, ideally related to manufacturing plants. You'll also need to be able to thrive in a corporate culture that combines the best of American and Taiwanese business practices.
JM Eagle is the world's largest plastic pipe manufacturer, an innovative leader that combines advanced technology with superior customer service to create the industry's most sophisticated and diverse products. We offer a highly competitive benefits package, including fully paid health insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents; a pension plan as well as a 401(k) with employer match; and more.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
Our preference is that you already have experience with manufacturing plant design, project management/coordination, and costing/estimating. However, if you don't, you'll acquire all in this role. In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
The ability to:
Read and work from blueprints and drawings.
Use AutoCAD or Microstation.
Use a Windows PC and Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Project, Access, Word, and Excel.
Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to influence and motivate others.
You may travel in this role to the various plants across the country, although we don't expect you will travel more than 15% of the time.
What's in It for You
Highly competitive business model -- with manufacturing facilities all over the country, we offer localized service and fast response. Our product line is quite diverse, but you'll contribute to efforts to explore new products, applications, materials, and markets. In fact, you may contribute to our initiative to enter the PE corrugated market, which involves bringing new facilities online.
Great work environment -- Our growth and success is inextricably linked to our most important asset: our people. We are dedicated to fostering a work atmosphere that motivates ingenuity and creative development and has attracted some of the best, brightest, and most knowledgeable employees in the pipe industry. We value the stability of structure and a methodical approach to measured change and incremental improvements.
New offices in a convenient location -- JM Eagle recently purchased and renovated a 10-story building on Century Blvd near LAX, close to both the 405 and 105 freeways. We occupy the top two stories.
A strong sense of community responsibility -- JM Eagle is committed to our core value of delivering life's essentials through the most eco-friendly plastic pipe products on the market, helping improve and maintain health and quality of life throughout the world. We remain active in community relief efforts (e.g. Hurricane Katrina) and donate pipe for these and other humanitarian activities in the US and around the world.
Excellent compensation -- we offer a competitive salary and bonus incentive program. Our benefits package, including medical, hospitalization, prescription, pension, and a 401(k) matching savings plan is excellent. Tuition reimbursement for professional growth is offered and encouraged.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will join a team of 10 to 15 that includes Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and others. At any given time you can expect to be involved with multiple projects of varying size and scope. While you will have individual deliverables, we foster a strong teamwork environment.
In June 2007, J-M Manufacturing, then the largest manufacturer of plastic pipes, acquired PW Eagle, the second largest, doubling almost overnight. We're integrating both into what is now the clear market leader, JM Eagle. As part of that integration we are ensuring that ALL our facilities are state of the art. You'll support a variety of projects, from improvements to plant expansions. In addition to design work you'll be involved in budgeting, estimating, obtaining bids, and coordinating among architectural firms, contractors, and internal resources on projects.
We're also making a significant investment in order to enter the PE corrugated pipe market, a market we expect will continue to grow significantly. You may contribute to this initiative, which will involve launching entirely new production lines in multiple factories, with equipment slated for delivery in the very near future.
Keys to Success
While this is an exciting time to join JM Eagle, it is also a challenging time. However, if you're a good fit for this role, you'll see the opportunity right behind the challenge. To excel in this role in this unique situation (and beyond) you will:
Maintain a high energy level and be flexible, persistent, and resourceful -- there are a lot of things to accomplish against a background of significant change.
Remain willing to "wear a lot of hats" in our lean business model.
Exercise sensitivity and patience in understanding our culture, processes, and communication style.
Be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity, but also with a fair amount of structure.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
