Opportunity Snapshot

If you have a track record of success in both sales and account management, this position offers you the chance to join the clear leader in our industry at a time when we are growing and making changes that can mean promotional opportunities for top performers. We have territories across the US, meaning you may have a degree of flexibility in your hours. In addition to a competitive base salary and generous commission plan, we offer a highly competitive benefits package, including fully paid health insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents; a pension plan as well as a 401(k) plan with employer match; and more.

You will focus on maintaining loyalty and expanding sales with existing clients in your territory by building relationships and providing top quality, responsive customer service. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have four to five years of experience in technical sales, including a proven ability to both sell a product and deliver excellent account support and service. You'll need account management experience as well as demonstrated closing and negotiating skills. We're looking for aggressive professionals with solid track records of maintaining strong relationships with clients. You'll also need to be able to thrive in a corporate culture that combines the best of American and Asian business practices.

JM Eagle is the world's largest plastic pipe manufacturer, an innovative leader that combines advanced technology with superior customer service to create the industry's most sophisticated and diverse products. We offer stability in an unpredictable economy: in addition to being the world's largest manufacturer of PVC pipe, we have a diverse, recession-resilient product portfolio.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • Outstanding follow up abilities.
  • The self-motivation and initiative to be persistent and upbeat in a highly competitive industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid proficiencies with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • A positive attitude.

What's in It for You

Career opportunities -- in June 2007, J-M Manufacturing, then the largest manufacturer of plastic pipes, acquired PW Eagle, the second largest, doubling almost overnight. We're integrating both into what is now the clear market leader, JM Eagle. We also just moved our corporate headquarters from New Jersey to Los Angeles. These changes mean we'll need strong people with the potential to move up into leadership roles.

Professional growth -- you will have the opportunity to practice your "outside" skills about five times a year as you travel to get face time with the distributors and contractors in your territory. In addition, tuition reimbursement for professional growth is offered and encouraged.

Great work environment -- our growth and success is inextricably linked to our most important asset: our people. We are dedicated to fostering a work atmosphere that motivates ingenuity and creative development and has attracted some of the best, brightest, and most knowledgeable employees in the pipe industry. We value the stability of structure and a methodical approach to measured change and incremental improvements.

New offices in a convenient location -- we recently purchased and renovated a 10-story building on Century Blvd near LAX, close to both the 405 and 105 freeways. We occupy the top two stories.

A strong sense of community responsibility -- JM Eagle is committed to our core value of delivering life's essentials through the most eco-friendly plastic pipe products on the market, helping improve and maintain health and quality of life throughout the world. We remain active in community relief efforts (e.g. Hurricane Katrina) and donate pipe for these and other humanitarian activities in the US and around the world.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to a Regional Sales Manager, you will join an inside sales team that is growing to 15 to 18 members. You'll provide "A to Z" sales and account management for distributors (who mainly supply contractors) in your territory, with a focus on creating a bond of loyalty. Ours is a highly competitive industry, and prices can fluctuate daily; that means that what distinguishes us from our competitors is you and the outstanding customer service you provide.

The accounts in your territory will be a mix including everything from national chains to "ma and pa" shops. Your activities will include such things as quoting prices, following up on that quote to turn it into an order (including negotiating points of the sale), ensuring all information is documented in our systems, interacting with our Production department, ensuring the product is shipped, and following up to correct problems and ensure the customer is fully satisfied.

Account management is only half of the role, and we'll assign you monthly sales targets as well. In addition to maintaining the relationship that keeps our customers coming back, we'll also look to you to probe for information regarding the potential for even more business with these accounts.

For the most part your interaction with the end buyers, the contractors, will be limited, although you'll need to understand what drives contractors in their buying decisions. Our portfolio includes a very large number of SKUs, into the thousands, but it is not difficult to work with once you get up to speed.

Keys to Success

While this is an exciting time to join JM Eagle, it is also a challenging time. However, if you're a good fit for this role, you'll see the opportunity right behind the challenge. To excel in this role in this unique situation (and beyond) you will:
  • Maintain a high energy level and be flexible, persistent, and resourceful.
  • Take a proactive approach to maintaining and improving your knowledge of all JM Eagle products and services, as well as of competitors' offerings.
  • Remain willing to "wear a lot of hats" in our lean business model.
  • Exercise sensitivity and patience in understanding our culture, processes, and communication style.
  • Be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity, but also with a fair amount of structure.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
