SUMMARY

 The public relations coordinator will conduct public relations campaigns directed toward trade media, including writing press releases, identifying editorial opportunities, creating and pitching story ideas, and developing relationships with editors and producers.  The coordinator will also produce newsletters to internal and external audiences, as well as assist in writing and editing technical collateral and Web site copy.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Media Relations o    Examine editorial calendars of trade publications to identify media opportunities.o    Develop story ideas.o    Pitch stories to editors and producers.o    Maintain media list.o    Write press releases.o    Develop and maintain media kit.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 Superior writing and communications skills.  Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or public relations.  Experience in writing press releases, feature stories and marketing copy with a strong element of technicality.  Agency plus newspaper or magazine experience preferred.  Knowledge of building products helpful.  

COMPUTER SKILLS

Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Internet/Intranet experience preferred. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups (employees or customers). 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
