SUMMARY

Supervise the manufacture of polyethylene products to meet cost and production goals and to ensure objectives are met in a safe environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communicates frequently with Plant Managers and the Inside Sales Department within JM Eagle. Responsible for the effective operation of the polyethylene plants including production, quality, inventory management, costs, employee relations, and working conditions. Responsible for establishing production standards for each polyethylene/corrugated machine by size and type of product. Analyze production control reports, which compare actual production performance with the standard by machine and by shift on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Responsible for raw materials management which includes tracking and entering month end inventories and monitoring the usage of raw materials and troubleshooting discrepancies. Responsible for maintaining adequate production supplies and making purchases in a timely and cost efficient manner. Orders and schedules shipments of raw materials in order to meet production schedules. Coordinates the production scheduling with the shipping department and Inside Sales to meet customer expectations and ensure product availability. Makes modifications in the production process in order to keep regrind and scrap inventories to a minimum. Communicates with employees on company and plant issues, performance, problem identification and resolution. Develops and maintains methods for identifying costs and cost allocations for PE operations separately from the manufacture of PVC. Maintains department budget by effectively controlling conversion costs, purchasing supplies and equipment, and allocating labor. Continually monitors process and product. Implements improvements and/or makes recommendations for improvements. Works with HQ Engineering to coordinate the installation, servicing, and repair of all machinery and equipment in the polyethylene plants. Assures that safety and environmental standards are met and vigorously enforces the company’s safety policies and procedures. Promotes the knowledge and use of polyethylene pipe with plant tours to customers, engineers, and government agencies. Ensures that policies and practices which support non-union status are developed and implemented, and continually monitors their effectiveness. Responsible for housekeeping and the overall appearance of the polyethylene plants.

This position is Manager for the Production of 7 plants with 4 plants Solid PE and 3 plants PE Corrugated.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Industrial Engineering is necessary, along with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience and at least 5 years’ experience in production management. A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in a plastic processing manufacturing operation is preferred. Knowledgeable of the processes used to manufacture polyethylene pipe. Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of the plan management team, making and supporting team decisions. Effective in developing performance plans and taking corrective action. Strong management skills, including ability to manage multiple complex tasks in a consistently changing environment. Demonstrated professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company policies and standards, and commitment to personal and professional development. Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Internet/Intranet experience preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure/training manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups (employees or customers).

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as production rates, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to work with measurements. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand the financial impact of decisions and to make decisions consistent with the goals of plant performance. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
