I.  Positions reporting directly to this position:  Engineering Assistant, Laboratory Technician
 
II.  POSITION OBJECTIVE:
 
 
  1. New product physical testing, research, and development.
  1. Product failure investigation.
  2. Plastic process engineering and improvement.
  3. Quality Assurance compliance testing and research
  4. Internal technical support.
  5. Auto-Cad knowledge and skills required
 
III.  QUALIFICATIONS: Human Resources will confirm.
 
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science, or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science
 
IV.  TRAINING:
 
Three months of extensive on the job training.  Continuous training as new programs and developments are assigned.
 
V. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
            A. Tasks and Duties
 
  1. Maintain work area to 5-S standards.
  2. Work as a team member on development projects.
  3. Test raw material complaint samples for compliance with J-M specifications.
  4. Conduct physical tests on trial samples.
  5. Help in modifying production equipment for new additives or formulations.
  6. Prepare and test plastic compound cell classification test specimens.
  7. Inspect rubber ring samples from new or reworked tooling for compliance with
     J-M specifications.
 
  1. Perform physical tests on pipe specimens per applicable outside agency
                standards (ASTM, UL, NSF, AWWA, and others).
 
  1. Handle some written and oral communications with vendors and outside
                 agencies.
 
  1. Conduct tests on potentially defective products.
  2. Investigate selected field complaints against J-M products.
  3. Review and/or revise J-M specifications (product and purchase).
  4. Evaluate new or improved rubber ring gaskets.
  5. Conduct tests in the presence of outside agency representatives.
  6. Attend technical seminars.
  7. Attend industry technical committee meetings
  8. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
 
The above, prescribed duties are set forth as “bench marks” for evaluation of this job.  They are representative of the normal work performed and do not constitute the complete requirements of the job.
 
B. Work Environment Conditions:
 
 
  1. Inside and outside environments apply.
  2. Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  3. Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  4. Subject to noise, causing reason to shout in order to be heard above the noise level.
  5. Subject to vibration, exposure fluctuating movements of the body.
  6. Subjects to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gasses, high heat, or explosives.
  7. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dusts.  Subject to oils and other cutting fluids.
 
VI.  AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING: State closeness of supervision, control by policy or procedure, direction of others.
