Production Shift Supervisor
PA
Position reporting directly to this position
: 3 or More Hourly.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
To supervise and direct activities involved in the production of PVC pipe or other products at this location.
QUALIFICATIONS: Describe education and experience needed to perform the above.
- High School Degree or equivalent experience.
- 1 – 2 Yeas college or equivalent experience or 3 –5 years in a related field
- Must read and follow technical instruction and apply mechanical principles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Checks product drawings and SOC specifications to see that correct set-ups are made and that production schedules are met.
- Is responsible for quantity and quality of production.
- Is responsible for seeing that repairs and changes in equipment are made as necessary. Determine the need for and prepares maintenance recommendations to production superintendent.
- Maintains records of in-process and finished goods.
- Makes operating decisions and changes so that products meet manufacturing specifications.
- Is responsible for handling personnel problems in the department. Establish and maintain good working relations with employees.
- Checks and/or makes out various reports such as Production and Labor Time tickets, inspection reports and safety and accident reports.
- Cooperates and coordinates work with other departments in order to maintain production schedule.
- Has a thorough knowledge of all operations and equipment as well as varies types and sizes of plastic pipe products.
- Teaches, advocates, and uses safe working practices and reports hazardous conditions at all times. Conducts meeting and inspections to implement plant safety programs.
- Maintains good housekeeping program at all times by subordinates in the department.
- Instructs and follows up on the activities of inexperienced employees.
- Directs the activities of all assigned personnel.
- Performs other miscellaneous job duties that are assigned.
Physical/Visual Activities Required/Work Environmental Conditions:
- Have adequate sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles. (I.E. forklifts, sweepers, cars and pickups).
- Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
- Hearings capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
- Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning, or mixing equipment.
- Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching in all areas due to limited direct supervision and/or observation.
- Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
- Hear clearly and understand verbal communication whether it is face to face or via telephone.
- Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed.
- See and understand written communication.
- Ability to confirm by sight quality level of raw materials and products produced to determine acceptance and/or denial of each.
- Push and pull up to 2500 pounds up to 30 feet with the aid of material handling equipment or a portable pallet jack.
- Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30”.
- Activate and uses telephones, calculators, and personal computers as required n assigned job requirements.
- Ability to feel objects, textures, size, and a shape and to determine temperature by touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.
- Ability to grasp tools and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to insure oneself or fellow employees.
AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING: State closeness of supervision, control by policy or procedure, direction of others.
Works under J-M policy and procedures on day-to-day basis. Works under the supervision provided by Production Superintendent/Plant Manager.
