Job Description
 
Title:                      Production Superintendent
Reports:               Plant Manager
 
 
  1.  Positions reporting directly to this position:  Salary & hourly
 
  1. Position Objective:  To produce one or more products at this location.  Provide maintenance and plant engineering service for the equipment, property and building facilities for production location.
 
  1. Qualifications:  Requires diverse knowledge of complex plastic processes and equipment.  Further requires thorough knowledge of its repairs, installation and maintenance.  Must be familiar with and be able to impart management policy and methods to achieve objectives of plant.  College degree or equivalent to college degree, preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering.
 
  1. Duties and Responsibilities:    Tasks and Duties
  1.  Supervises and directs all production department personnel in the effective and economic utilization of the plant’s manufacturing and maintenance facilities.  Produces those products to the company’s and customer’s specifications according to production schedules.
  2. Directs and supervises the effective and timely repair, installation and maintenance of all plant equipment in conjunction with the above.
  3. Recommends alternations and replacement of equipment as they become either obsolete, or in need of alternation or re-design, and makes improvements as necessary to effectively meet production schedules and quality standards.
  4. Interviews, selects and hires qualified personnel for production positions within his responsibility.
  5. Develops and controls those items of expense budgets associated with the operation of both the production .
  6. Initiates cost reduction in conjunction with plant objectives to improve the plant’s cost operation methods.
  7. Initiates and develops capital expenditures needs as they are either apparent or within the 1-5 year plan.
  8. maintains a high level of standards for safety, housekeeping and environmental goal commensurate with JM policies and practices as they relate to both corporate and community needs.
  9. Serves as technical advisor to the plant manager and maintains cooperation with other departments and personnel within the plant.
  10. Develops and maintains satisfactory employee relations including the exercising of necessary discipline procedure in accordance with and cooperation with industrial relations practices and policies.
  11. Is responsible for the effective training and communication needs of the people within his responsibility.
  12. Helps to develop and maintain reporting of production priorities and maintenance priorities needed to effectively measure his departments activities and in corporation with the plant’s service department.
  13. Maintains good community relationships as they relate to his personnel and the plant’s effectiveness in reaching its objectives.
  14. Maintains records and levels of maintenance inventories to effectively meet downtime goals but within the plants budgets and good investment practices.
  15. Proposes and performs development runs and makes recommendations as to both product and equipment needs to meet approved changes in the company’s product line.
  16. maintains standard level of plant building and ground repairs and appearance as required to meet company objectives.
  17. Cooperates with service department in changing of plant methods and procedures in the utilization of men, materials and equipment that will effectively improve the plant’s operation.
  18. Works with the service departments in its quest to improve customers service, such that schedules are adjusted with reason and that customer visits are effectively accomplished.
  19. Maintains detailed scheduling of products in proper sequencing by machine and also allocates production personnel in accordance with those plants.
  20. Administers the review of salaried and hourly personnel under his direction, for wage increases when appropriate.
  21. Supervises and maintains all utility services including water, gas, electricity, sewage and truck shop.
  22. Implements engineering and maintenance improvements required by company policy, OSHA, EPA, ect., regarding safety, industrial hygiene.
  23. Coordinates and is responsible for fire protection and prevention.
  24. Performs other assignments as directed by the Plant Manager.

                 Physical/Visual Requirements/Work Environmental Conditions:
  1.  Have proper sight, hearing and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles. I.E forklifts, sweepers, cars and pickups.
  2. Sight capabilities to distinguish proper products identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
  3. Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  4. Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
  5. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning or packaging equipment and products.
  6. Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas due to possible limited direct supervision and or observation.
  7. Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  8. Hear and understand verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone.
  9. See and understand written communication.
  10. Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30”.
  11. Activates and uses telephone, calculators as required in assigned job requirements.
  12. Ability to confirm by sight quality level of raw materials and products produced to determine acceptance and or denial of each.
  13. Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed.
  14. Lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 30 feet.
  15. Push and or pull up to 50 pounds up to 30 feet without the aid of material handling equipment.
  16. Ability to feel objects, size and shape and to determine temperature by touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.
  17. Ability to grasps tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees.
  18. Sight capability to safely operate at arms length machinery and power or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.
 
  1.  Authority/Decision Making:  Works under JM policy and procedures on day-to-day basis.  Independently plans and accomplishes definite objectives under general direction methods and procedures to be planned in detail as not to only maintain equipment in good running order, but to meet productivity requirement at minimum downtime.  Makes independent decisions within broad limitations of company policies as to attain objectives noted above.  Maintain good working relationships with all other departments.
