  1. Positions reporting directly to this position:  Three or more hourly employees.
 
  1. POSITION OBJECTIVE:  - Brief statement of why position exists.
 
To supervise and direct activities involved in the production of PVC pipe or other products at this location.
 
  1. QUALIFICATIONS: - describe education and experience needed to perform the above.  Personnel will confirm.
 
High school graduate, 1-2 years college or equivalent experience, or 3-5 years in related field or able to pass competency testing.  Must be qualified on subordinate jobs.  Must read and follow technical instructions and apply mechanical principles.
 
IV.       DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - refer to 5 forms for complete description of duties, physical and visual requirements.
 
A.  TASKS AND DUTIES
 
  1. Checks product drawings and specification to see that correct set-ups are made and that production schedules are met.
  2. Individual is responsible for the quality and quantity of production.
  3. Individual is responsible for seeing that repairs and changes in equipment are made as necessary.  Determines need for and prepares maintenance recommendations to production superintendent.
  4. Maintains records of in-process and finished products.
  5. Makes operating decisions and changes so that products meet manufacturing specifications.
  6. Is responsible for handling personnel problems in the department.  Establish and maintain good working relations with employees.
  7. Checks and/or makes out various reports such as Production and Labor Time tickets, inspections report and safety and accident reports.
  8. Cooperates and coordinates work with other departments in order to maintain production schedules.
  9. Has a thorough knowledge of all operations and equipment as well as the various types and sizes of plastic products.
  10. Teaches, advocates and uses safe working practices and reports hazardous conditions at all time.  Conducts meeting and inspections to implement plant safety program.
  11. Maintains good housekeeping program at all times by subordinates in the department.
  12. Instructs and follows up the activities of inexperienced employees.
  13. Direct the activities of all assigned personnel.
 
B.  Physical/Visual Activities Required/Work/ Environmental Conditions:
 
  1. Have adequate sight, hearing and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles, i.e., forklifts, sweepers, cars and pickups.
  2. Sight capabilities to distinguish proper products identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
  3. Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  4. Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
  5. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning or packaging equipment and products.
  6. Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas due to possible limited direct supervision and or observation.
  7. Ability to verbally communicate either face-to-face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  8. Hear and understand all verbal communication whether it be face-to-face or via telephone.
  9. See and understand written communication.
  10. Ability to confirm by sight quality level of raw materials and products produced to determine acceptance and/or denial of each.
  11. Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed.
  12. Lift up to 70 pounds and carry up to 30 feet.
  13. Push and/or pull up to 2500 pounds up to 30 feet with the aid of material handling equipment.
  14. Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30”.
  15. Activates and uses telephone, typewriter, calculators as required in assigned job requirements.
  16. Ability to feel objects, size and shape and to determine temperature by touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.
  17. Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure yourself or fellow employees; i.e., power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.
  18. Sight capability to safely operate at arms length machinery, power and hand tools needed to accomplish the requirements of the job assignments for this position.

  1. AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING: - State closeness of supervision, control by policy or procedures, direction of others.
 
Works under J-M policy and procedures on a day-to-day basis.  Works under the direction of the General Foreman/Production Superintendent/Plant Engineer in planning, scheduling, training and supervising employees, machines, and materials in the department assigned in order to secure the maximum quantity and quality of production.  Maintains a good working relationship with all other departments.
