Electro-Mechanic

I.   Positions reporting directly to this position:  NONE
 
II.  POSITION OBJECTIVE:  To install, repair, and maintain production equipment, buildings, and facilities.
 
III.  QUALIFICATIONS:   

Minimum High School or equivalent experience.  Electrical and mechanical experience, complete capability to read and produce drawings.  Good knowledge of electrical codes.  4+ years experience in maintenance repairs.
 
IV.  TRAINING:
 
The first year will be on the job training, learning the manufacturing process, and the electrical equipment throughout the plant.  Continuous training on the job as new equipment is installed and projects are designed and developed.
 
V.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
A. Tasks and Duties:
1.  Maintain work area to THM standards.
2.  Installs, sets up, and maintains mechanical equipment as directed
3.  Installs, operates, maintains, tests, and locates trouble on all types of AC and DC   
     equipment, including lubrication and periodic servicing.
4.  Possesses a working knowledge of mechanical drawings and schematics. 
     Diagnoses and employs the proper procedure for the relief of trouble.
5.  Works on equipment independently as the situation requires.    
6.  Determines when parts need replacement and repairs are necessary.
7.  Possesses and uses knowledge of Plant Electrical Distribution system and power 
     requirements.
8.  Starts, stops, maintains, and helps install plant utilities and production equipment.
9.  Dismantles and assembles electrical motors and allied equipment.  Repairs, 
     replaces, cleans, and paints parts.
10.  Possesses a working knowledge of the following equipment:
      a. Arc and gas welding equipment.
      b. Power tools such as the drill press, cut-off saw, and portable power tools.
      c. Hand tools and testing equipment of both electrical and mechanical trades.
      d. Hoisting equipment.
11.  Skilled in the use of electrical testing equipment commonly used in an industrial
       plant, such as ammeters and voltmeters.
12.  Working knowledge of electrical codes.
13.  Working knowledge of programmable controllers.
14.  Possesses the necessary tools of the trade.
15.  Operates mobile and hoisting equipment as necessary.
16.  Works directly under and assists Electro-Mech Tech and the Maintenance
       Supervisor  when required.
17.  Performs miscellaneous jobs as directed.
18.  Operates forklifts as necessary.
19.  Maintains forklift certification.
 
The above, prescribed duties are set forth as “bench marks” for evaluation of this job.  They are representative of the normal work performed and do not constitute the complete requirements of the job.
 
            B. Physical/Visual Activities Required:
 
  1. Have adequate sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles. I.E. forklifts and sweepers.
      2.  Sight capabilities to distinguish proper products identification as well as
           warning and operational indicators.
  1. Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  2. Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
  3. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning, or packaging equipment and products.
  4. Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching in all areas dues to possible limited direct supervision and/or observation.
      7.  Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with
           other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  1. Hear and understand verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone.
  2. See and understand written communication.
  3. Lift up to 70 pounds and carry up to 30 feet.
  4. Walking through, under, and around equipment with clearance of 30”.
    12. Push and/or pull up to 2500 pounds up to 30 feet with the aid of material handling  
       equipment.
    13. Ability to feel objects, textures, size, and shape and to determine temperatures by 
       touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.
    14. Ability to grasp tools (manual as well and powered) and use them in accordance with a 
       safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees. I.E. power saws,
       drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.
    15. Sight capability to safely operate at arms length machinery power and/or hand tools     
       needed to accomplish the requirements of the job assignments for this position.
 
C. Work Environment Conditions:
 
  1. Inside and outside environments apply.
  2. Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  3. Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  4. Subject to noise, causing reason to shout in order to be heard above the noise level.
  5. Subject to vibration, exposure fluctuating movements of the body.
  6. Subjects to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gasses, high heat, or explosives.
  7. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dusts.  Subject to oils and other cutting fluids.
 
VI.  AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING: State closeness of supervision, control by policy or 
      procedure, direction of others.
 
Works under J-M policy and procedures on day-to-day basis.  Works under the supervision of the Maintenance Leadman and Superintendent.
