Assistant Controller

SUMMARY
The
Assistant Controller supervises, evaluates and improves the functions of the Accounting Department including Accounts Payable, General Accounting and Cost Accounting to ensure that goals and objectives are met. This position guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits and controls in the AS400 system.
- Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, expense reimbursements, invoicing/billing, General Accounting and Cost Accounting.
- Hands-on responsibility for the preparation, analysis and submission of timely and accurate monthly and yearly financial statements.
- Coordinates the company’s annual financial audits with outside auditors and internal stakeholders.
- Provide review, verification and approval of AP batches and resolve all AP related issues.
- Perform routine general ledger accounts verification and reconciliation.
- Ensure accuracy of payroll information for AS400 upload and manage relationship with payroll bank.
- Complete monthly verification of sales commissions, shipping incentives, plant bonuses and rebate payments.
- Oversee the Accounting operations for subsidiary corporations and maintain relationship with vendors.
- Manage the preparation of taxes to ensure accuracy and timely filing with appropriate agencies.
- Perform semi-annual plant inventory and internal total housekeeping management program audits.
- Responsible for hiring, evaluating, rewarding and disciplining Accounting staff.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.
- Complete ad-hoc projects as assigned by the CFO.
- Exercise discretion and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will supervise Accounting staff at the headquarters location.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience (including 4 years supervising staff) in Accounting management or a closely related position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), internet/Intranet experience. Knowledge of AS400 system.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and analyze Accounting documents including general ledgers and financial statements. Ability to write correspondence and procedures. Ability to speak effectively before groups (including employees and vendors).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as production rates, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to work with measurements. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to use broad judgment in the day to day supervision of designated staff.
