The Human Resources Generalist performs HR-related duties on a professional level by carrying out responsibilities in one or more functional areas, such as recruitment / employment, employee relations, and immigration, and assists the Vice President in providing comprehensive HR service to managers and employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop recruitment strategies to achieve required staffing levels. Meets with managers to develop specific recruiting plans. Participate in job fairs and related outreach activities to generate qualified applicants. Create and manage job postings. Ensure recruitment and employment practices are applied consistently, and in compliance with applicable employment legislation and regulations.
Perform reference and background checks on applicants, and ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. Periodically audit Forms I-9.
Oversee immigration programs and ensure required documents are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Facilitate all aspects of onboarding, including new hire orientation.
Maintain local affirmative action records and reports to conform to regulations.
Serve as an employee relations specialist. Counsel and guide managers before executing employee disciplinary actions. Respond to employee relation issues such as employee complaints and harassment allegations Track all employee disciplinary actions.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
Maintain and process all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely efficient manner. Represent the company for unemployment claims hearings.
Provide comprehensive HR service to managers and staff within the organization, explaining policies, procedures and programs.
Maintain current knowledge of legal requirements related to assigned functional area to ensure compliance and assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Perform related duties such as relocation, tuition reimbursement, and compliance training (e.g., California Harassment Training Prevention).
Use perception and sensitivity to relate to individuals at all levels with understanding of business needs. Exercise discretion and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as directed by Vice President.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Psychology, Human Resources, or Management, and five (5) years of experience in in the Human Resources field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), internet/Intranet experience. HRIS experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups (including employees and vendors).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as production rates, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to work with measurements. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Strong problem solving skills.
